A Note from Our Moderator (August '09)

The Executive Council of Religions for Peace USA is taking a number of steps to reduce costs; despite contributions from several member religious communities and affiliates, the financial situation of Religions for Peace USA has faced increasing challenges in the past year due to the economic recession and decreased charitable giving. Due to these financial challenges, the Executive Council has accepted the resignation of Religions for Peace USA’s Executive Director, Dr. Lucinda Mosher. The Executive Council is grateful for Dr. Mosher’s dedication and service to the organization during a difficult period. In addition, the Religions for Peace USA office will have reduced staff for the short-term (August–October 2009), but will continue its intern program.

Despite these challenges, the Executive Council’s goal is to strengthen Religions for Peace USA and sustain the organization’s mission to translate deeply held and widely shared values into concrete multi-religious programs and action. Religions for Peace USA intends to follow through with most of its current programming commitments.

Looking forward, the Executive Council is considering a number of ways to strengthen Religions for Peace USA to assure the long-term viability of Religions for Peace USA. We will keep you informed of developments during this transitional period for Religions for Peace USA. Please contact me directly with any input and/or questions.

In peace,
Dr. Tarunjit Butalia
